I believe it is a fact that no storm with hurricane force winds has ever hit Costa Rica. Basically the country is at too low a latitude for the coriolis effect to kick in and give storms the rotational punch they need to become hurricanes. Google comes up with three hurricanes that have come close to Costa Rica:

And I know that it is relatively common for hurricanes nearby to lead to heavy rain in Costa Rica.
I suppose it is theoretically possible for an actual hurricane to make it to Costa Rica. But I don't think it has ever actually happened. Can anyone confirm this one way or the other?
