On June 18th the Robert August Inaugural Stand Up Paddle Challenge will take place at Las Catalinas. Oh yeah! There will be a Distance Class Race, a Sprint Class, and a Family Class. I am definitely entering. The race is being put on by Pura Vida Ride, the outdoor outfitter business located at Las Catalinas. It will be the first of many, many athletic events to be held at Las Catalinas, I'm sure. Martyn and Jake at Pura Vida Ride (and I as well!) are very ambitious about making Las Catalinas the leading center for active outdoor sports in all of Costa Rica.
Stand up paddleboarding ("SUP") is a very fast-growing sport, and super fun. It is easy to learn, and a great workout. You can ride waves, or really cover some distance. Las Catalinas is a perfect place for SUP!
Here is an aerial of the course. It really could not be more spectacular. Clear warm water, swell surging on the rocks, dramatic cliffs, abundant wildlife - it has it all.
