Our Beach Club is built, beautiful, and going through the pre-opening process with the Grand Opening coming up shortly. This is a big deal for Las Catalinas. The Beach Club gives us an important additional center of activity and our first swimming pools for shared community use. It includes:
- a twenty five meter lap pool
- a kids play pool
- an adult quiet pool
- a hot tub
- a beautiful restaurant and bar
- locker rooms
- an octagonal pavilion
- plenty of seating and lounge chairs
All this happens on three different levels. The upper level connects up stairs or a ramp to Plaza Celaje, which offers beautiful views over the pools and out to sea. The two lower levels both connect at grade to the maritime zone and a beautiful little bluff above the beach. The lower level also will connect to Paseo del Mar and the rest of beach town. I am thrilled with how it is turning out, and I'm totally certain that it will be the scene of much fun and pleasure starting immediately!
The design of the beach club first emerged from a Notre Dame School of Architecture studio led by professor Douglas Duany. Then-student David Hayes produced a conceptual design very close to what we have now built. We then brought in architect Ricardo Arosemena to complete and perfect the design, which he did masterfully. Luis Diego Calzada has been in charge of construction. Adrina Fonseca is in charge of interiors. Juliana Gill is in charge of getting everything put together and ready operate. I love how the club building tucks into one side, opening up a tremendous view from Plaza Celaje and much of Beach Town South. I love how the octagon helps define the spaces of the club, the plaza, and Calle Cartagena without blocking views. Muchas gracias to everyone involved in making this happen!
