As I mentioned back in September, during the school term just completed we had a group of students at the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture working on Las Catalinas projects under the direction of Professor Douglas Duany. One of these projects was our upcoming beach club and pool. We are very pleased with the design that has emerged and are moving as quickly as possible to get construction drawings done and build.
The beach club will be located adjacent to Plaza Celaje, on a small bluff above the beach. There are three pools - a family pool, a larger lap pool, and a hot pool. The building has a weight room and locker rooms on the lower level. On the upper level there is a bar/dining area, snackbar, kitchen, and bathrooms. The whole pool and deck area is below street and plaza level, providing great views over the pool to the ocean and islands beyond. The smaller octagonal tower helps frame these views from Plaza Celaje and Calle Cartegena without blocking them.
